What are green mortgages?
Green mortgages are all about the EPC, or Energy Performance Certificate of your property. EPC’s were introduced in 2007 and measures the energy efficiency of all properties on a scale of A to G. Over the past two years, more and more lenders have been offering ‘Green Mortgages’ and are valid on properties which have a valid EPC rating of either A or B.
Which lenders could I use?
Lenders including Nationwide Building Society, Halifax, NatWest, Leeds Building Society and many others, now offer different rewards for having an energy efficient home. These rewards can involve cashback offers and even lower interest rates.
Who is Eligible?
Green mortgages are available to first-time buyers, home movers, new build properties, shared equity/shared ownership schemes and also remortgages however each lender with vary on criteria!
